1. Who We Are
TorqueIndex ("we", "our", "us") operates this website to provide vehicle remap estimation data and connect vehicle owners with remap professionals.
2. Data We Collect
a) Enquiry Form
When you submit an enquiry through our lead form, we collect:
- First name and last name
- Email address
- Phone number (optional)
- Postcode (optional)
- Vehicle information (make, model, generation, engine)
- GDPR consent status
- Marketing opt-in preference
b) Registration Plate Lookup
When you use our registration plate lookup feature, we send your vehicle registration number to the DVSA MOT History API and the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service API, both operated by the UK Government, to retrieve publicly available vehicle information such as make, model, year of manufacture, fuel type, and engine capacity.
We do not store your registration number or the results of the lookup. This data is used only to identify your vehicle within our database during your browsing session.
c) Technician Accounts
If you register as a remap technician on our marketplace, we collect your business name, contact details, coverage areas, and account credentials. This data is used to operate the technician marketplace and facilitate lead claims.
d) Automatically Collected Data
We collect your IP address for rate-limiting purposes to prevent abuse of our services. IP addresses are held in server memory only and are not stored permanently or written to disk.
3. How We Use Your Data
We use your data to:
- Connect you with qualified remap professionals
- Respond to your enquiry
- Look up your vehicle details via UK Government APIs
- Operate the technician marketplace
- Send marketing communications (only with your explicit consent)
- Prevent abuse through rate limiting
- Improve our services
4. Legal Basis for Processing
We process your data on the following bases:
- Consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)) — for enquiry submissions and marketing communications. You can withdraw consent at any time by contacting us.
- Legitimate interests (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)) — for registration plate lookups (providing the service you requested), rate limiting, and fraud prevention.
- Contract performance (GDPR Article 6(1)(b)) — for technician account management and marketplace operations.
5. Data Sharing
We share data with the following third parties:
- DVSA MOT History API & DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service — your registration number is sent to these UK Government services to retrieve vehicle information. Their use is governed by their respective terms of service and privacy notices.
- Independent remap technicians — to provide your quote, we make your enquiry available to self-employed remap technicians through a secure, password-protected dashboard.
Before a technician takes on your enquiry, they can see your vehicle details, your vehicle registration and the first part of your postcode (for example "LE13"). The registration is shown at this stage so a technician can check the vehicle and confirm they can carry out the work before accepting — it avoids you being quoted by someone unable to do the job. Your name, email address, phone number and full postcode are released only once a technician accepts your enquiry, and we record who accessed it and when.
We do not send your personal details by email, text or messaging apps. Notifications sent to technicians contain only the vehicle and general area.
These technicians are independent businesses. They are not employed by TorqueIndex, and we do not direct or supervise their work. Once a technician accesses your details they are independently responsible for that data under UK data protection law, and their own privacy practices apply. We can tell you which technician received your enquiry, and we can withdraw a technician's access to our systems at any time.
We do not sell your data to third parties.
5a. Vehicle Registration
Where you provide your vehicle registration, we store it with your enquiry so a technician can identify your exact vehicle and quote accurately. It is visible to approved technicians within our access-controlled dashboard, including before they accept your enquiry, so they can confirm they are able to carry out the work. It is never included in email, text or messaging notifications, and it is not shown publicly anywhere on this site.
6. Data Retention
- Enquiry data — retained for up to 24 months after your last enquiry, unless you request deletion sooner.
- Technician accounts — retained for the duration of the account and deleted upon request.
- Registration plate lookups — not stored. Data exists only in memory during your session.
7. Your Rights
Under GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access your personal data
- Rectify inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Restrict processing
- Data portability
- Object to processing
- Withdraw consent
